{"id":39240,"date":"2025-01-03T13:02:58","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T05:02:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/naturalistecharters.com.au\/?p=39240"},"modified":"2025-01-04T13:04:23","modified_gmt":"2025-01-04T05:04:23","slug":"a-lucky-day-in-the-bremer-canyon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naturalistecharters.dilatevps1.cloudsites.net.au\/old\/blogs\/a-lucky-day-in-the-bremer-canyon\/","title":{"rendered":"A Lucky Day in the Bremer Canyon: 03.01.25"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Orcas, Wildlife and Unforgettable Moments<\/h2>\n<h3>Spotting Orcas Right at the Hotspot<\/h3>\n<p>The second day back in the Bremer Canyon started with luck and excitement.<\/p>\n<p>Arriving directly at the hotspot, we quickly encountered a pod of 7\u20138 orcas.<\/p>\n<p>Among them was Nibbles, a fan-favourite male, travelling with family members Mia, Slug, Lucy Dash, Dalaxy, Roxy, and Digby.<\/p>\n<p>The pod took 7-minute dives, resurfacing 400 metres from their last spot, keeping us on our toes as we navigated through the swells to stay close.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-39246\" src=\"https:\/\/naturalistecharters.dilatevps1.cloudsites.net.au\/old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/th_MACHI-YOSHIDA-0rca-day4-10-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Killer Whale pods grouping in Bremer Canyon\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/naturalistecharters.dilatevps1.cloudsites.net.au\/old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/th_MACHI-YOSHIDA-0rca-day4-10-980x654.jpg 980w, https:\/\/naturalistecharters.dilatevps1.cloudsites.net.au\/old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/th_MACHI-YOSHIDA-0rca-day4-10-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>A Foraging Feast with Nibbles&#8217; Family<\/h3>\n<p>Before long, Nibbles and his pod joined forces with another family group, including Razor, Lil Blade, Akama, and Fanscar.<\/p>\n<p>Together, this larger group of 10\u201312 orcas appeared to forage in an echelon line formation, likely in search of a midday meal.<\/p>\n<h3>Playful Antics from Lil Blade<\/h3>\n<p>One of the highlights of the day was Lil Blade, Razor\u2019s playful offspring.<\/p>\n<p>Lil Blade swam alongside our vessel, then performed a fascinating manoeuvre\u2014rolling backwards through the water, breaking the surface headfirst, and flipping onto their back.<\/p>\n<p>The move resembled a puppy begging for a belly rub and brought smiles to everyone onboard. Soon, we identified Chalky, a robust male from Tatty\u2019s pod.<\/p>\n<p>Other orcas followed, including Wonks from Splittip\u2019s pod and Hookfin from Tatty\u2019s pod.<\/p>\n<p>Females Loupy and Three Stripes from Splittip\u2019s pod, along with the Queen herself, also surfaced.
